Events @ MUJC

At MUJC events is what it's all about. Some weekly, some only once a semester with others only once a year, there's always something happening each week for you to come along to! Below is just a few events that have occured multiple times in the past that you might be interested in.

KAIWA Conversation Sessions

Practice Japanese/English, meet new people, and enjoy a wide range of Japanese snack foods. Our Tuesday KAIWA sessions are also the best opportunity to see what we're all about. It is our largest weekly event and everyone is encouraged to sit back and relax while having a chat with Japanese-studying student, Japanese enthusiasts as well as REAL Japanese people! Feel free to bring along anything too! While not for getting your assignments done for you (and you thought you had a chance!) , those niggling grammar/vocab/phrase/nuance/dialect questions need bother you no more!

Nomikai (Social Drinking Night)

Nomikai is where the REAL socialising happens. Every few months we hold a drinking party at several venues, the most recent being club Blowfish. Earlier this year we also held a nomikai at a pub near Melbourne Uni where we had exclusive access to the upstairs room and it was a huge success with a large number of Japanese people from Holmesglen TAFE and among other institutes across Melbourne. We had huge discounts to beer and spirits, which, I'm sure, made smiles on everyone's faces.
So look out for our events and soon you will take part in our amazing social aspect of MUJC.

Japanese Camp

In 2009, MUJC organised the first ever Japanese Camp. This was by far the biggest and time/money invested activity known in the history of our club. 18 lucky attendees journeyed to a luxurious beach house in Blairgowrie (about 2 hours from Franston station) and spend 2 nights 3 days having the time of their lives. There were 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a ping pong table, air hockey table, DVD player and other shenanigans to entertain us throughout the camp. Just some of the activities we did on camp were: sandcastle competition, ball games on the beach, punishment games and lots of fun drinking games including Boat Race (this was epic, since it was a close close game).
So make sure you don't miss out on our camp which will most likely take place next year and it will be BIGGER and BETTER than ever.
